Last call for Sammie nominees

The Partnership for Public Service has extended until Friday — Jan. 11 — the deadline for nominations for the 2013 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals  (Sammies).

The eight medals are awarded to federal employees based on three main criteria: impact of their work on meeting the needs of the nation, on-the-job innovation, and commitment to public service. Medal categories include Call to Service, Career Achievement, Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, Science and Environment, and other categories related to specific government fields.

All career civilian federal employees are eligible, and anyone may submit a nomination.

Thirty finalists will be recognized at a Capitol Hill awards ceremony during Public Service Recognition Week in the spring. The winners will be honored in the fall at a Washington, D.C., gala.

The nomination form is at www.servicetoamericamedals.org. Any nominations started this week will still be considered, according to the Partnership’s Sarah Howe.

  1. Reading these comments makes me disgusted with the bottom end of the Postal service. I’m an RCA and have been for 9 yrs. I know 9 routes including 2 city routes. I live in an area that is very small, so I don’t work every day. I always try to get the carriers to take a day off so I can work.I don’t get any benefits, including retirement. I can do most of the routes in 5 or 6 hrs. I would be willing to work some hrs doing something else to make up the difference in time. But that’s just me.
I love to work. The city carriers do have it much harder than rural carriers. I know because I’ve done them both. As far as the llv’s, I will be glad when our PO. gets them. I don’t make enough money for the gas an up keep on my personal car. Quit bitching and be glad you have a job. Unemployment is high.jobs are hard to get.
