Five things on sale from your friendly federal government: Part 2

0

Back by popular demand, it’s a roundup of some of the more exotic items being sold by federal agencies. Whether its the U.S. Marshals seizing property or the General Services Administration trying to get rid of some random miscellany that for some reason wound up in an auction, you know you’re just itching to crack open that paypal account and pony up.

Lets begin.

#5 PRINTS AND PAINTINGS (Mostly of birds, but there is also a fish and apparently a cheetah?)

Current bid: $2,134

Now I know what you are thinking. That seems like an awful lot of money for some art. But let me just say its for 27 pieces of art. That makes the current price more like $79 per piece. And if that is not enough to pique your interest then just get a load of the following sales pitch from the auction listing (emphasis mine).

ONE LOT TO CONSIST OF APPROXIMATELY TWENTY-SEVEN PIECES OF ART. SOME ARE IN VARIOUS FRAMES AND SOME ARE NOT IN FRAMES. THE ARTISTS INCLUDE ROGER TORY PETERSON, GUY COHELEACH, MANABU SAITO, AND OTHERS. THE ART IS IN GREAT CONDITION. INSPECTION BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. REPAIRS MAY BE REQUIRED.

Some are in various frames! And some are not in various frames! I think I rest my case on that count.

And if there is even a bit of reluctance to cough up the money, here is one of the pieces you can buy.

And if you think this painting looks suspiciously like the Pokemon “Magikarp” then you are correct (but also just a little too in touch with Pokemon).

The resemblance is uncanny right?

#4 Patrol Craft

Current Bid: $ 1,000

Have you ever seen “Thunder in Paradise” and thought to yourself “All I really need is a boat to fight crime.” Then you are in the right place. This is a 108 feet, 66 ton patrol craft that can fit up to 50 people. its housed and the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis just waiting for the right person…

Oh right, and engine parts, because:

ALL MAJOR ENGINEERING SYSTEMS, MAIN ENGINES, GENERATORS, AUXILIARY SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN REMOVED.

Quick, let's make our escape! On foot, I mean.

#3 1931 Ford Pick Up Model A Roadster

Current bid: Unknown

Somebody didn’t pay their taxes and that means that if you decide to enter this auction you can pick up your very own classic car. The auction is mail-in only, so that means I have no clue how much the current bid is. But go ahead and scribble in a number and give it a shot.

#2 29 reels of telephone cable

Current bid: $5,565

From your friends at the Federal Aviation Administration. Do I really have to say more?

Just think of all the telephone wiring possibilities!

#1 Miscellaneous Scrap

Current bid: $565

This big pile of scrap includes, “BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO METAL, PLASTIC and WOOD” according to the auction listing, which means who knows what you will find there!

Who knows what you will find? I mean, besides plastic, metal and wood ...
