TMI at TSA

6

The Smoking Gun today published a statement from a Transportation Security Administration screener who allegedly beat a co-worker with a baton for mocking the size of his genitalia. According to alleged assaulter Rolando Negrin’s statement to Miami police, several co-workers teased him day after day as a “little angry man” after a full-body scanner digitally exposed him, and he snapped. He said the relentless mockery became a form of “psychological torture.”

There’s so much about this case that is messed up. Using physical violence to resolve a workplace dispute is, of course, never justified. But if this is actually what happened, this also represents a gross failure of TSA management at Miami International Airport. Being taunted daily about the size of one’s penis is a pretty clear-cut case of sexual harassment, and nobody should have to endure that. It’s a manager’s responsibility to snuff out that kind of middle school behavior precisely so it doesn’t escalate into a parking lot brawl.

  1. “Advanced Imaging Technology” is a euphemism created to make people think they are getting “scanned.” No one is getting “scanned” — they are getting strip searched.
    REMEMBER ROLANDO NEGRIN !

The fundamental privacy issue is whether our government has the right to make strip searches routine and mandatory.

There is no question that these machines violate the 4th Amendment.

There are also health issues. Researchers are already coming out saying that the machines aren’t safe and could cause cancer. The flat ones (Rapiscan) use X-RAYS on Men, Women & Children, including pregnant women!

HELP PUT A STOP TO THE TYRANNY!

  2. I have been through the scanning technology many times. It takes seconds. I want everyone on the plane with me to go through it so the real tyranny doesn’t happen to me. The real tyranny is some wacko blowing my body and everyone else on the plane with me into pink mist because we didn’t use every reasonable tool to prevent. Scanning me, who cares? Scanning a wild-eyed bomber flying with me—I care–scan him up one side and down the other and be quick about it.

  3. “There is no question that these machines violate the 4th Amendment.” Courts have already ruled that security screening before boarding an aircraft has a greater weight on the public welfare and safety and are therefore permissible and are not a violation of an individual’s rights under the Fourth Amendment.

  4. It’s bull****, it’s a step towards tearing up the constitution. More federal goverment crap. I’m retired police, probable cause and reasonable suspicion worked just fine for me. Couple thousand felony arrests and what maybe half a dozen strip searches. Only used on the very dangerous serious offenders. Sure didn’t strip search the whole public.
