Thieves target Virginia government offices

This is why you don’t let anyone follow you into the building without proper identification.

A group of thieves is targeting office buildings in northern Virginia, including sensitive federal offices, the Atlantic reported today.

The crooks make fake laminated badges hung off lanyards, then loiter near building entrances that require card key or fob access and follow other employees in. Pretty clever.

This begs the question, though — what’s worse, letting a criminal into the building, or asking someone to see their ID and then feeling like a jerk when you realize it’s actually one of those co-workers you never talk to?
