Department of Homeland Security St. Elizabeths Hospital Center Building will be occupied by the staff of the Homeland Security secretary when renovations are complete. The long, narrow building was designed for maximum exposure to the rising and setting sun, while windows built into every room allow natural light. Clay for the bricks was dug from the St. Elizabeths grounds and fired in ovens on site.
