With our stated mission to protect and serve the American workforce, folks here at the Labor Department are especially attuned to the fact that most of the thousands of people killed on Sept. 11, 2001, were Americans at work. Continuing the significant public service work that we do, and that all federal employees do, is one effective response to the terrorists’ attempts to disrupt our society. I am proud to say that we have done that these last 10 years.
In the wake of 9/11, there is still ignorance, intolerance, hatred and barbarism. Hopefully, there is also a striving for better understanding, altruism, justice, passion for righteous causes, and the will and capacity of humanity to change this world for the better.
